Breakfast was basically only a continental spread, cold
cuts, cheese, jams and honey but NO eggs, toast and coffee that was sure to
wake you up strong hot and very dark!! It is going to be very hot today so we have
decided to head back to the coast to Matalascañas so that Jane could walk on
the beach. Lots of people heading here. Most of this area is part of Donana
Park but there are areas to access the beach other than the town we are heading
to. There lots of bars and restaurants and down on the beach, and a little
further just before the park area there are chiringuitos right on the beach.
Interesting that so many people, instead of walking a100 yards up the beach,
choose to congregate en masse! It was a lovely walk and there was a lovely
little breeze coming off the Atlantic. I love how the Spanish do not feel that
you have to be young and perfect to wear a two piece suit! I am who I am and if
you don’t like it too bad! Awesome, I felt liberated and in awesome shape
compared to most of the women out there! LOL!
We headed back inland and up to El Rocio after nearly 2
hours and parked near the lake and church entrance, did a little souvenir
shopping, refresco—Bitter Kas, and ultimately switched plans for lunch to the
Restaurante Toru
ńo. Jane had Pez espada (swordfish) and Paul an entrecote ,
al punto. Dessert was frozen chocolate bon bons to give heat relief!! (Can you
tell who put that in there?)

We headed back for a siesta and to regroup for the evening.
It does bear repeating that it is still steaming hot! As soon as the sun sets
and the temperature drops to a balmy 90 degrees we think about food. Lately we
have not been eating until 10 pm, it is just too hot. Then we have something
fairly light, because who wants to go to bed on a full stomach? We head back to
the Meeting Point Bar (my translation) to watch for horses but none appeared so
after some refreshment we went to the place that had the platos combinados. No
eggs for breakfast so we will settle for supper instead.
Tomorrow we are heading to Sanlucar de Barrameda. El Rocio has been very interesting but also
incredibly hot and dusty. The little interlude at the beach was just what we
needed. When you live near the water you do not realize how soothing it is to
the soul.
Off to bed and a two hour drive to Sanlucar tomorrow. Buenas
noches y que duermes bien!
