A full day with nothing scheduled and now that we have our
tickets for Donańa on Monday at 10AM we can wander freely! Except Paul says
we have to go get cheap towels at the Chinese Bazaar. They want a 10 Euro
deposit at the hotel and we bought 2 huge towels for 2 euros apiece! We will
use them and then leave them at the last hotel when we leave country….good
deal.
We were not sure if we had visited the Castillo de Santiago
last time so we drove up to the castle.
(they are always at the top, good look out point). It is a very nice
castle and I had saved a lovely pamphlet so I could tell you all about it but I
cannot find it and the internet is crappy so I cannot pull up anything! I do remember
climbing up the tower which has 3 levels, the first has this wonderful old
library, the second is a circular map room and the third level is where
Isabella of Castile saw the ocean for the first time! Awesome views from the
top down the Guadilquivir to the Atlantic. The castle is well preserved and a
lot of renovation has been done. We realized we had been here some years ago
but I do love a nice castle, don’t you?
We headed back to Restaurante Juan for more coquinas and
paella which actually turned out to be almost soupy but it was delicious and
even better because we opted for the upstairs air conditioned dining room .
Very pretty with lovely blue tiles and tablecloths. Our Maitre d’ for the
previous evening was pleased to see us!
It is surprising how the afternoon gets away from you when
you siesta. As you don’t eat lunch until 3, 3.30 and you go back to the hotel
about 4.30 and you rinse out a few things and nap or swim, before you know it,
it is 6.30 or 7pm and it is time to go for a walk and find somewhere to eat!
Tough life.
After that big lunch I only wanted a tapa or two but I
didn’t really want anymore shrimp or fish or shellfish….seriously it is very
hard to find anything non seafood here! We opted for calamares, salad (I know!
They were not very good either!) and Paul had an entrcote. A quiet, calm day.
Happy Fathers Paul and tomorrow in 100 degree weather we will explore Donańa!
