Off to breakfast thinking we might see our new friends from
last evening but NO such luck, either they got an early start or they are
having a lie in, their drive will only be up to Seville about 150K. After the
Parador buffet we loaded the car and pulled the mirrors into the body for our
trek through the tiny narrow back streets. That is always an interesting start
to any day! Paul had agonized for the last couple of days wondering if we could
get out of there without scraping the car! My thoughts were that we got up
there without damage we could get out. Besides a mini bus had gone down there too,
he was unconvinced. After 15 minutes we were finally at the bottom of town and
outside the confines of the tiny old quarter, Paul said his clutch leg was
trembling from the hairy drive down through the back streets. Any way we
stopped and took a photo of the buildings on the edge high above us.
On the road again we picked up listening to CJ Box, and Joe
Pickett. While we were having fun in Arcos we had left Joe Pickett and his
supervisor stranded in the mountains tracking a wounded grizzly bear. We were
relieved to hear that the two Wyoming Game Wardens finally tracked down the
bear and put him out of his misery.
The wind blew into the car gently and coolly because the
Cadiz coast has Not been included in this Heat wave gripping the rest of Spain.
From 40C (104F) inland we will see 28C on the coast, what a relief. It will be
strange to be in a city again. Our Cadiz Hotel is the Monte Puertatierra
located on the main Avenida de Andalucía with underground parking to the rear
of the property, Jane checked us in while Paul waited out front next to the bus
stop. The maritime beach of 3 miles is merely one block behind the hotel. Got
the luggage unloaded into a good sized room with lovely marble tile in all
areas. In the front lobby the floor tiles were actually 3 ft by 3ft tiles. I
would hate to drop one of those. They assigned us a parking space in the garage
but as neither of us could exit the car without great difficulty we got
something a bit bigger! One level lower down.
We headed into town after siesta on the #1 bus. Paul had
been watching it like hawk and there seemed to be one every couple of minutes
to the Plaza de Espana. You know how he loves a city bus no matter where it
goes and the price 1.20 Euro cannot be beat. We don’t know Cadiz very well. The
last time we were here was a New Years trip about 8 years ago and we stayed at
the Parador which has since been demolished and a new one built in its place.
It will be interesting to see it.
We wandered from the Plaza de Espańa through the old town full of
folks enjoying the cool 78F temps in the early evening. We had tapas here and
there and were satisfied without a huge meal to the point that we were back on
a #1 bus heading home for the night, early for a change. I think we are finally
running out of steam. Time to slow down a bit.
