DAY 4, 7 June 2017 Wednesday Jarandilla de la Vera day 2 Surrounding Area

I am sure glad that we packed the “let’s have good weather request” in our luggage for this year’s trip – it started off bright  and sunny without any clouds.  Another fine day without clouds, overnight we had 58F but have a target on 84F.
The two explorers enjoyed another hearty breakfast and then set off to find the local supermarket Dia% store for a few goodies.  After their light shopping trip they then decided to just venture out in the Vera valleys without a target in mind. Lovely peaceful drive with fresh flowers in bloom everywhere and a sweet fragrance floating on every breeze.
Ultimately stopped in Losar de Vera for a spot of lunch having tried 2 bars the first a cafeteria the second had Zero food at all but at the 3rd bar we found, ensalada rusa, chicken wings and deep fried red hot peppers. Very interesting on the peppers which were Not hot just crunchy.
We continued driving past the Parador for one village and then back for our short rest period. After siesta, we planned our attack for evening food consisting of nothing but tapas at a little local bar just below the grounds of the Parador. Tapas (Serrano ham, patates bravas, calamares, and ensalada mixta) for supper on th e main highway down below the Parador followed by an easy walk back up to the Parador and an early nightcap.
It was a very relaxing day. Who says we have to be dashing around checking the tourist spots? Our goal is to stop and smell the roses of which there are many here in Jarandilla and they are not cutting them correctly! They need to dead headed and trimmed  back! Sheesh! Which leads to something I want to call musings about Spain. It could be about people, community, gardening, customs, parking garages or whatever,  I don’t know but every once in a while, I will comment on life and comparisons between our beloved Spain and our wonderful US . Not criticizing , just noting the differences. Here in the US people are sometimes obsessed with the lawn and demand precise cutting and edging. Not everyone but many, you know who you are. I struggle with this because though I want it to look lush, I also want a bit of control so that the jungle does not devour me. Here in Spain, they have lovely gardens, parks, medians, but, there is very little controlled, the grass is unkempt, weed filled and not edged. The flower beds have a life of their own, the flowers spill over in an abundance of blossoms and fragrance. Even the medians are a riot of color, yellow broom, oleanders and poppies waving triumphantly in the fields, saying “ so what, I am gorgeous!”. I thought about how Florida got its name and yet when I look around me here in this lovely land of Extremadura, the home of the Conquistadores, what did we have that they did not? Oh , by the way , the hydrangeas are amazing!
We have been going to bed very late for some reason. Eating late, drinking late, sayin “oh my goodness is that the time?” and sleeping late. It is going to catch up with us eventually. We are going to get up before we go to bed! We must reset the clock and get it together.
